"Come by the hills to a land where life is a song Stand where the birds fill the air with their joy all day long Where the trees sway in time, and even the wind sings in tune And the cares of tomorrow can wait 'til this day is done"
Jack sang, with her feet dangling off the edge of the cliff, staring out across the water and letting the warm sun dance on her cheeks. It was a beautiful day, and one of the first that she had been able to wear shorts without getting looked at like she was insane. Her shirt was cut up, so that it hung on her shoulders, showing the top of her brown swim suit top. Her flip flops sat beside her, and she was happy for the first time in a long time.
"Come by the hills to the land where legend remains The stories of old fill the hearts and may yet come again Where the past has been lost, and the future is still to be won And the cares of tomorrow can wait 'til this day is done"
It was such a simple song. Speaking of love. Jack was surprised it was the song she was singing, she hadn't listened to it in a while. Still, she humed the tune as she watched an eagle soar through the sky. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes, smiling at the fact that she was actually beginning to like Washington. At first she hadn't liked it, but after a week it had grown on her. She didn't live in La Push, no rather, right smack dab in between La Push and Forks. It was a quaint house, large enough that her and her father didn't have to be up each others asses all the time, but just right for them. It had a large piece of property, big enough for them, the dogs, and their horse, Tiene*. Life was okay.
Looking behind her into the trees and the landscape, she wondered what lived there. She had smelled the wolves, and oh how they irritated her. She knew they were her kind, not like Adam or Ben. Ben, oh how much she missed his arrogant British ass. He hated woman, mostly, but for some reason, they had gotten along fine. She missed him, the pack. They were her family and she would have to wait to go see them. It wasn't fair. Snarling softly, she looked down below her. The water was calm, glistening brightly, begging her to jump in. Smiling crookedly, she stood up, and stripped down to nothing but her brown bikini. This was going to be fun. Taking multiple steps back, she stood for a moment, then ran full speed and threw herself off the edge.
Being suspended in the air made her feel like she was flying. It was beautiful. Smiling, she bent her body, and when the water came close, stretched out, diving into the crisp water. The sound of her splash, then the dull silence of the water intrigued her. Kicking to the suface, she took a deep breath, laying on her back and relaxing in the cool and peaceful water.
*It is pronounced Tenneh.

Jacob had taken some time out to wander up to the cliffs, alone. He had a lot on his mind at the moment and with his sister fluttering around the house at the moment he needed some space before he ended up breaking something. He hadnt been to the cliffs for a while, not really since Bella had decided to fling herself off them the previous year. He remembered the feeling in his stomach as he had seen her jump playing like a bad movie in his head. He growled thinking of why she had done it, he wished with all his heart that Edward HAD managed to get himself killed. It would have been so much better for Bella, she would have gotten over it... Eventually.
He raised his head as he heard a voice singing on the wind, he frowned a little not recognising either the voice of the smell. The scent was strange, almost like a Werewolf but not quite. He followed the sound and smell curiously, he resisted the urge to change to a wolf,he didnt want the pack in his head right now, plus if he had to hear one more thought in Pauls head about his sister he was going to rip his head off. As he came into view of the cliff he saw just as the girl ran and jumped off the edge.
In that moment the world seemed to spin around him, he knew the girl wasnt Bella, but seeing her jump sent the memories tumbling back into his mind as he sprinted for the cliff, kicking off his shoes and ripping off his shirt he jumped and somersaulted in the air strangely gracefully for a strong muscled boy and plummetted into the cold waters below. It was almost as if his body was being controlled by some puppet master, one moment he was on top of the cliff the next he was looking into the eyes of a rather shocked Jack.
He blicked a little as he treaded water looking at her a little in shock himself. It took him a moment to find himself 'Er Hi... Sorry...' Okay he felt like a bit of an idiot now but he felt his panic leave him, this girl obviously wasnt in distress or anything, geez he must look like a right pratt. 'I'm Jacob?' He offered as an apology stroke introdution stroke question. The cold water ebbing around his hot skin made him shudder slightly.

Jack stared shocked at the young man treading water next to her. Raising an eyebrow in question, she brought herself upright, treading water herself, with her shoulders out of the water. She could feel the droplets running from her hair onto her back and shook her head when she heard the young man across from her talk. Who the hell was he? She took a deep breath, trying to hold in her sarcastic comments, and knew immediately what he was. Oh crap. She thought. He was a wolf, and not a moon called. Great. Looking at him with questioning eyes she stared him in the eyes with challenge.
"Hi Jacob, I'm Jack." She said, holding out her hand in the water, allowing the droplets to fall from her hand. "So do you usually jump off the cliff after people? Or is it just my unlucky day?" She asked with a quirk of her head. This boy was going to be interesting. He was wolf, and most of them, from her experience, were air headed, jerks. They thought themselves better than everyone else, he werewolves, the other shape-shifters, the vampires...all of them. Taking a deep breath, she went over to the rock wall and sat on a ledge there. The water dripped down her skin, over her coyote paw tattoo, and her legs kicked back and forth in the water.
"So Jacob, are you the only one of your kind in the area?" She asked outright. It might as well be put forward, because she knew he could smell what she was. But what baffled her was why the hell did he randomly jump off the cliff after her? I mean, she hadn't jumped like she was going to kill herself, she had jumped for fun, so why did this boy jump in after here? She couldn't put her head around it, and that frustrated her even more.

Jacob looked a little embarassed ashe took her hand and smiled a little before withdrawing it. Jacob had never smelt anything like Jake before, he was definately curious about her to say the least. His cheeks burned red as she asked him if it was her unlucky day. 'Ah yeah... Sorry' He tried to come up with something that didnt make him look like a complete idiot. 'I have a friend who jumped off the cliff last year and well, she nearly drowned...' He took in a deep breath, he dreaded to think what would have happened if he hadnt have dived in after Bella. 'The under currents here can take people by suprise'
He didnt overly like the way this girl was looking at him, geez okay he had been an idiot and all that but was that a good enough reason to look at him like he was some filthy blood sucker or something. He followed her swimming to the rocks and tilted his head slightly as she asked her question. He wasnt fully shocked, after all he could smell she wasnt human. 'I think I should be the one asking you that... Sorry but you are on Quileute Territory.' He shrugged a little he wasnt going to be hostile to the girl, unless she gave him reason to. It was rather refreshing talking to someone not from La Push anyway.
Jacob had refused to be the Alpha of the pack, but with every day he was considering breaking from the pack and going after that blood sucker Edward. Sure Sam would want to know about the girl but for now Jacob was glad to be away from them all. 'I havent seen... or smelt you before, I was coming to see who you were when you jumped. Things are a little tense at the moment.' Well they were for him at least, Sam seemed perfectly happy to let the blood suckers be as long as they stayed on their side of the line... The problem was that Bella was on the other side of the line.

Jack laughed softly. "Well the undercurrents weren't a challenge for me." She watched as Jake followed her to the rocks and watched him closely. When he answered her question, she raised an eyebrow and had to fight not to laugh. Was he really going to pull some, your on my turf bullshit? Wow, that would be an amusing sight to behold.
"I'm a coyote." She smiled, let him figure that out. "I live a couple miles from here, right between La Push and Forks. Actually I've smelled you on my property before." She said the last with a hint of question in her voice. If his pack was running regular patrols, like they should, then they would have smelled her and her father by then. But it seemed like he had no idea, what she was, who she was and where she was from. That was good. She really didn't want a fight with the locals wolves, but if she had to, she would protect the small family she had.
"If I'm on your land, I'm sorry. But I live here now wolf, and theres nothing you can do about it."

Jacob climbed onto a rock and brushed a hand through his now very short hair. He felt a slight rumble come to his throat as she spoke 'Hey I have a name you know... Did I say I wanted to do anything about it?' He was trying to be friendly but this girl was starting to hit all the wrong buttons with him. He thought about what she said, Coyote? He had never heard of that before. Then again if you had asked him last year if Werewolves had existed he would have laughed in their face. 'Sam had said he picked up an odd scent, so it was you and your family?' Hey he wasnt all that bothered, if the girl wanted to cause trouble in the pack he didnt mind, that was going to be Sams problem. He had more pressing things on his mind anyway.
'You will probably want to introduce yourself to Sam Uley in La Push, hes the Pack leader. There are tensions flying all over the place at the moment and I wouldnt want your family caught in the middle.' Ironic really that she lived on the border between the two, he bet she had no idea what she was letting herself in for. He stretched and sighed looking out across the waves, had it really been a year since Bella had jumped off the very same cliff? He looked down to Jake and sighed shaking his head as he leaned back against the cliff face.

Jack sat quietly, watching Jake pull himself up and sit on the rocks also. As she sat there, she realized something that he had said that rubbed her wrong. "Wait, you said pack, as if you were a pack of werewolves." She said with a tilt of her head. Okay, she knew she was sticking her nose where it didn't belong, but come on, she was a coyote and she was curious. Looking at Jake she had to hide the smile and laugh that caught in her throat. "You aren't a moon called. You know that right? Your a shape-shifter. Moon called, or werewolves, change with the cycle of the moon. I'm guessing you don't." She had to smiled know. This boy, Jacob, didn't even know what he really was. It was kind of sad.
Standing up on the ledge, she looked up the rock face, contemplating on whether to climb back up and jump again, or to jump back into the water. The water it is, she thought, as she dove back into the cool wetness. It was refreshing and nice as she came back up to the surface, with her back to Jake. "You know, I don't know if I want to talk to this Sam. I would, but I really won't be in La Push that much, I mean, I may go to the beach and these here cliffs, but thats about it. As far as I can see in the foreseeable future." She swam around for a moment. What trouble was he talking about? Did she and her father really leave a fight behind to find a new one. If they did, she wasn't going to let him leave. She wanted to see what all the fuss was about. "So what do you mean, trouble? What could be so troublesome? A pack of moon called, vampires, shape-shifters, demons...What could it be?"

Jacob let out a deep snarl, Jack was really trying his patience and at the moment that really wasnt a good idea. His eyes focused on the girl 'Last time I checked a group of wolves were called a pack. Stop being a smart arse or I'll stop trying to be nice.' He was starting to wonder why he even bothered, he went out of the house to get away from one woman and ran straight into another. What the hell was it with them all???
A smirk came across his face as she said she was going to mainly stay in Forks. 'Your funeral not mine... Dont say I didnt warn you. Just thought I would warn you since I am nice like that, but hey if you want to be disrespectful to the treaties and customs here its your skin NOT mine.' He dived into the water and started swimming towards the beach. However he paused when he heard her speak again, treading water he watched her. He didnt know what to make of this girl, she acted as if he had done something horrible to her.
'Look you seem to have some problem with me, I dont know why and you know what I dont really care... But if your not careful your going to threaten everything my ancestors built for us.' He had never taken any of the stories for real, until he had changed but now it was all out in the open he knew that Jacks actions in Forks could cause them problems. He turned and continued swimming, if she wanted answers that badly she could follow him, if she didnt then the pack had a problem and Sam needed to know. One thing was for damn sure though, if the shit hit that fan then Jacob was taking Bella and getting the hell out of the way.

Jack grimaced. She was being an ass. He didn't deserve the prejudice of what other wolves had done to her. Sighing she turned and saw him swimming away. Raising an eyebrow, and locking her jaw, she contemplated going after him, trying to figure out, what was the problem with Forks. Rolling her eyes, she went swimming after him, swimming fast. She may be a coyote, but she had been one of the best swimmers on the swim team in San Diego. "Wait!"
She swam as fast as she could, finally catching up to him. "Okay, I'm sorry. Your breed just aren't always the nicest of our kind." She said, leaving out the one jackal she had met, that guy had been an ass. "Look, why should I fear Forks? I'm new and although I've smelled the vampires in and around Forks, I haven't seen them. I'm not stupid, and I don't try to hunt them. I actually have a few friends that are vampires that have saved my ass a few times, but since obviously I'm new here and don't know why you all are scared, would you please tell me. I'm sorry I was rude, but as I said before, your kind are hard to deal with as a coyote." She said it all quickly, not taking a breath. Ugh, how she hated any kind of begging, but if she was going to get info, she wanted to get it from him. She kept up with hum until she got to the beach, stepping up onto the sand, letting it squish between her toes and then let herself drop, laying on the sand. She took a deep breath and waited for Jake to reply.
"So, you obviously aren't the alphaa, so why are you so accepting to me being here. Usually the lower ranking wolves freak and run to the alpha when they find something odd on their turf." She said breathlessly. She wasn't meaning to be rude, she was just curious. Why had he come and spoken with her rather than running to the alpha, this Sam. Staring up at the sky, she watched the same eagle as before, diving towards the water to catch a fish. The beautiful circle of life was taking place and as usual, she was awestruck by it. No matter how apart of that cycle she was, it still amazed her.

As he reached the sand he turned and sat down sighing slightly, she wasnt a blood sucker, she was fine in his books. His quarrel was with Edward, the pale face that had stolen Bella from him and almost gotten her killed. 'The Pale faces are a Coven, there are seven of them and they live in Forks.' He growled slightly, in all truth he didnt have that many quarrels with them, only Edward. 'There is an old pact set up by my ancestors and the Cullen family. They stay away from La Push and we stay away from them.' Oh how he would love to break that treaty and go after Edward.
He gritted his teeth in anger 'Edward Cullen has caused no end of problems, he has a gift, he can read peoples thoughts, and theres the girl Alice, she can see the future. They also have two very skilled fighters amongst them/ He stopped and stared out to sea, she didnt expect her to understand how a war between them would be bad. To be totally honest if he was Sam he would be tempted to break the treaty and drive them out anyway. However he wasnt the Alpha, he had refused that role. Though he knew that Sam respected his choice and saw him more as an equal in the pack.
Jacob laughed 'Because I am not the Alpha by choice, if I had wanted it I would have been the Alpha. I didnt though, but just because I let Sam be Alpha doesnt mean I agree with the way he does stuff.' Infact he was still bitter from the way Sam had responded to him getting close to Bella. He didnt need all the shit that came with being a pack leader, though it would be nice to not have the pack mind... To be able to keep your thoughts to yourself when as a wolf. 'I cant promise Sam would take news of you being here like he would a bunch of flowers, but I dont see a problem.' He watched the eagle and smiled slightly.

Jack looked at Jake, who sat next to her. He was so different. She hadn't met many like him. But the idea of vampires in such a small town, and who controled their seethe? Was there a mistress or master that she and her father needed to speak to? On top of that, they needed to speak with this Sam, the alpha of the wolves. This was going to be interesting.
"You turned down the chance to be Alpha? I understand that. It sucks to be alpha, or to be in charge. Having to look after others even when they don't want you looking after them." Jack shook her head. She had, had to deal with her coyote family and all the werewolves and vampires along side her father, or for him at some points. It was always interesting and a new experience.
"So these vampires have gifts? That's not uncommon. So you guys have the land split? So whats the line? I"m guessing it's that smelly line that I live on?" She laughed slightly coming up so that she was leaning on her elbows. "I really don't want to go to that school. Let me guess, I'm going to school with the vampires. So how many of them are there?"

Jacob laughed 'Yeah, the change happened at a real bad time... To be honest I just wanted everything to go back to normal and anyway my change happened after Sams, didnt want the hassle of him stepping down and all that stuff. He was more experienced than me so it made sense... In my head at least.' He wondered if it all would have been different if Bella hadnt been involved with everything, he wasnt all that sure. It had killed him being away from her and seeing how it hurt her, he forced away a growl before it formed, Bella didnt deserve to be upset anymore.
He looked to Jack and smirked 'You got it... Right down that line... Arnt you the lucky one?' He chuckled a little, he hadnt crossed the line since he had changed. It was strange how much everything had changed in the past year, who would have thought his perception on life would change completely. 'Correct again' He laughed 'Your good at this guessing game... Five of them go to the school, and that includes the three with gifts. The other two pose as the 'parents', the 'father' Carlisle works at the hospital.'
His skin was dry now, the heat of his skin helping it all to evaporate. He hugged his knees loosely, he hadnt asked for any of this. He hadnt asked to be a werewolf or for vampires to exist. He wanted everything to go back to the way they were before. But even then would it have changed anything? Bella still would have gone running back to Edward. He looked back to Jack and wondered if he should tell her about that, after a moment he had made his choice.
'And of course theres the whole matter of Bella...' He felt a slight rumble in his throat. 'Edward has attracted a human girl, infactuated her.' His muscles tensed and his teeth gritted, of all the people in the world why Bella? 'He doesnt seem to get hes dangerous to her, hes almost gotten her killed twice already and hes dangerously close to breaking the treaty by turning her.' He knew thats what Bella wanted, she knew she had hated Jacob for his interference but he didnt see how she didnt understand why he was so against it all. 'Wouldnt care so much really, if it wasnt her.' Jacob loved Bella, he wished she loved him back, but that filthy blood sucker got in the way. He felt the snarl on his lips, his eyes glaring into the distance.

Jack listened to Jake, staring out to the horizon. She was amazed and had to do a double take when he said the change happened at a bad time. What change? "What change?" She voiced her thoughts. She had been coyote for as long as she could remember, ever since she was a child. Her father had, had to hide it from her mother and then when her mother found out, she left. It was devastating.
"So this Bella girl and one of the vampires have a thing for each other? Interesting." She said casually. It was obvious that Jake had feelings for this girl too, but she wasn't going to say anything along those lines. She didn't know what was wrong with it. Stefan had always been nice to her back in Santee, even though her father got pissed when he saved her life by seducing her, so that another wouldn't kill her. That was in the past though. Sighing, she thought of all her old friends, and enemies. She even missed them, and that was just weird.
Coming back to reality, she looked over at Jake smiling. He was and okay guy, and this Bella girl was lucky to have him. He would follow her to the end of the world. Realizing that she had made no sense at all when she had asked about the change he had spoke of, she explained to him what she meant. "You see, I never went through the change. Ever since I was a child I could remember being coyote. It was always in my blood."
She couldn't help but laugh. This was a strange world, and it seemed like she had just walked into an even stranger place. "Yes, lucky me. I'm on the line, so I'm going to either choose a side or get caught in the middle correct?" She knew she wouldn't choose a side unless she felt extremely threatened by the other. She was a coyote, and she was just thought of as a scavenger. That was the life she had to live.

He looked to Jack and was a little suprised at what she said. For him and the rest of the pack it was like a myth coming true. 'Erm yeah... Our changes were triggered by the Cullens being back in the area. He ran his hand through his hair, the whole werewolf thing was new to him still. 'So... You have always been able to change? Thats really strange... We all have to wait to 'come of age' or something like that.' He still didnt really understand it all, he tried not to let it get to him.
Another growl rumbled in his throat 'Its Dangerous, shes better off without him.' His eyes darkened slightly, Edward should have just stayed away. He spoke again his voice quiet'He shouldnt have come back.' More correctly Bella should have let Edward die. He relaxed and sighed looking to her 'Sorry, it still hurts ya know?' He didnt mean to drag her into his pitiful life.
Jacob grinned at Jack and laughed 'Well I wouldnt accept anything welcoming from the Blood Suckers. Carlisle... May be welcoming but the others hate shapeshifters with a passion.' He stretched out and watched Jack curiously, he had learned so much in the past year, but a coyote? 'Tell me a bit about yourself, I'm curious. I only found out that our legends of being related with wolves was true last year. It must have been so different for you.'

Jack just nodded. She didn't know why it was so different for her. She would have hated to wait for when she was older. She loves what she is too much to actually want to get ride of it. She smiled at Jacob when he spoke of the vampires prejudices.
"Not all of their kind are that prejudice. If you got to know some of them, they are actually pretty cool people, if you meet the right one." She said smiling out at the horizon. "It's just like when you meet normal people, some are good some are bad."
She sat up to a sitting position, feeling her hair brush lightly on her back, almost dry and filled with sand. She just continued to listen, thats all people needed others to do sometime, was listen. She continued to sit and nod, understanding where he was coming from, but also she could put herself in the others shoes. "I know." She said softly as she listened.
When he asked about her, she had to laugh. "Well, I'm the daughter of a tattoo artist/author. I'm eighteen, and have an obsession for cars and any kind of motorcycles. I can drive and race as good as any guy....hmmm, well I like sushi, but hate Chinese Food. I don't know. What do you want to know?" She asked laughing. She truthfully couldn't answer his question unless he was specific.
